Gandhi Jayanti Quotes
A short story on Gandhi Jayanti :
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869.
The son of a senior government official, Gandhi was born and raised in a Hindu Bania community in coastal Gujarat, and trained in law in London. Gandhi became famous by fighting for the civil rights of Muslim and Hindu Indians in South Africa, using the new techniques of non-violent civil disobedience that he developed.
Returning to India in 1915, he set about organising peasants to protest excessive land-taxes. A lifelong opponent of "communalism" (i.e. basing politics on religion) he reached out widely to all religious groups.
He became a leader of Muslims protesting the declining status of the Caliphate. Assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, Gandhi led nationwide campaigns for easing poverty, expanding women's rights, building religious and ethnic amity, ending untouchability, increasing economic self-reliance, and above all for achieving Swaraj—the independence of India from British domination.
Here are the few quotes from Mahatma Gandhi :
"My life is my message ".
" Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will".
"We must become the change we want to see ".
"The future depends on what we do in the present".
"Their is no god higher than truth".
"Glory lies in the attempt to reach one's goal and not in reaching it".
"A 'NO' uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a 'yes' merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble. "
" A man who has completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and become the ransom of the world. It was a perfect art.
" A principle is the expression of perfection, and as imperfect beings like us cannot practise perfection,we devise every moment limits of its compromise in practise."
"A vow is a purely religious act which cannot be taken in a fit of passion. It can be takne only with a mind purified and composed and with GOD as witness."
"All compromise is based on give and take, but there can be one give and take on fundamentals. Any compromise on mere fundamentals is a surrender. For it is all give and no take.
" You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if an few drops of the ocean are dirty,
the ocean does not become dirty.

Top ten requirements for teaching
Here, are the top ten requirements for good teaching, by Dr.Richard Leblanc, York University.
1. GOOD TEACHING is as much about passion as it is about reason.
2. GOOD TEACHING is about substance and training students as consumers
of knowledge
3. GOOD TEACHING is about listening, questioning, being
responsive,
and remembering that each student and class is different.
4. GOOD TEACHING is about not always having a fixed agenda
and being
rigid, but being flexible, fluid, experimenting, and having the
confidence to
react and adjust to changing circumstances.
5. GOOD TEACHING is also about style. Should good teaching
be entertaining?
You bet! Does this mean that it lacks in substance? Not a
chance! Effective
teaching is not about being locked with both hands glued to a
podium
or having your eyes fixated on a slide projector while youdrone on.
deprecating and not taking yourself too seriously.
7. GOOD TEACHING is about caring, nurturing, and developing minds and
talents. It’s about devoting time, often invisible, to every student.
8.GOOD TEACHING is supported by strong and visionary leadership, and very
tangible instructional support resources, personnel, and funds.
9.GOOD TEACHING is about mentoring between senior and junior faculty,
teamwork, and being recognized and promoted by one’s peers.
10.AT THE END OF
THE DAY, good teaching is about having fun, experiencing
pleasure and intrinsic rewards…like locking eyes with a student in the back row
and seeing the synapses and neurons connecting, thoughts being formed, the
person becoming better, and a smile cracking across a face as learning all of a
sudden happens.
It’s about the former student who says your course changed her
life. It’s about another telling you that your course was the best one he’s ever
taken.
Good teachers practice their craft not for the money or because they have
to, but because they truly enjoy it and because they want to. Good teachers
couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
